Rare emotional moment: Thompson meets the mother of Vukovar hero after concert

After Marko Perković Thompson’s concert in Vukovar, a rare and emotional meeting brought the singer and his wife, Sandra, together with Lyliane Fournier, the mother of Jean-Michel Nicolier.

Fournier attended the concert with Nicolier’s brother and later expressed her enthusiasm for the performance. Sandra shared a photograph of the meeting on Instagram.

Fournier has visited Croatia for years to preserve the memory of her son. Nicolier left France in 1991 to defend Vukovar. After the city fell, he was taken from the Vukovar hospital while seriously wounded and executed at Ovčara.

His fate, and his mother’s fight for the truth, have become powerful symbols of the tragedy of Vukovar. The meeting added a personal moment to a concert that drew 100,000 visitors, making it the largest in the city’s history.

The event also had a charitable purpose, with proceeds directed to a Salesian student dormitory and the Stadium of 12 Croatian Police Officers. The evening included tributes to fallen defenders, a greeting from Thompson to his son Ante Mihael, and a drone show that wrote “Vukovar, hero city” across the sky.
