Rayo Vallecano's Batalla stretchered off after crucial save, injury status unclear

Rayo Vallecano's goalkeeper, Augusto Batalla, was forced off the field on a stretcher during the team's recent match against Alavés, sparking concern among teammates and fans. The incident occurred in the second half when Batalla made a vital one-on-one save to deny Alavés an equalizer, but suffered a significant blow to his leg in the process.

After the save, Batalla remained on the ground for several minutes while receiving medical attention. Despite attempts to recover, it became clear he could not continue playing. He was subsequently carried off the pitch on a stretcher, receiving applause from the crowd as he departed. Dani Cárdenas was substituted in to replace him in goal for the remainder of the match.

Following his exit from the field, Batalla required assistance to walk, with two attendants helping him as he was unable to put normal weight on his affected leg. He appeared visibly distressed by the pain, with reports indicating he was in tears. An official medical report detailing the severity of his injury has not yet been released.

The injury to Batalla adds to Rayo Vallecano's difficulties during the match. Forward Isi Palazón had also been substituted in the first half due to an injury. The double substitution meant the team had no remaining changes available for the final half-hour of play. The match ultimately ended in a 1-1 draw, with Mariano Díaz scoring the equalizer for Alavés.
