RB Leipzig to forgo replacement for injured Baumgartner

RB Leipzig will begin the new Bundesliga season without signing a direct replacement for the injured Austrian international Christoph Baumgartner. Sporting director Marcel Schäfer expressed the club's hope that Baumgartner will be able to play a substantial part of the first half of the season, though this depends on his rehabilitation progress.

Baumgartner sustained a severe thigh injury during warm-ups before Austria's match against Tunisia, requiring surgery. This injury forced him to miss the World Cup with his national team. Schäfer described the injury as "serious" and indicated that recovery will likely take months rather than weeks, emphasizing the club's commitment to supporting his return.

His individual contribution was substantial, leading the team with 17 goals and 9 assists.
