REA Signs MoUs to Deepen Clean Energy Transition, Food Security

Nigeria's Rural Electrification Agency (REA) has inked two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) designed to accelerate the nation's clean energy transition and enhance food security. These agreements, signed with the Nigerian Commodity Exchange (NCX) and Young Innovators of Nigeria (YIN), signal REA's expanding role in driving economic development through productive use infrastructure and innovation.

The first partnership between REA and NCX establishes a National Collaborative Framework for Agro-Industrial Cluster Development. This initiative aims to integrate renewable energy into agricultural value chains nationwide, supporting President Bola Tinubu's food security agenda. The collaboration seeks to create a scalable model linking solar-powered energy systems with commodity aggregation, processing, storage, and trade, thereby reducing post-harvest losses and boosting non-oil export earnings.

This collaboration underscores the critical link between energy access and agricultural productivity as pillars of national economic development. By formalizing commodity trading and integrating renewable energy, both institutions aim to strengthen food security and stimulate agro-industrial growth.

The second MoU, with YIN, focuses on co-hosting and implementing the Technology Ecosystem Dialogue (TED). YIN, a platform dedicated to bridging Nigeria's digital skills gap, empowers young people and entrepreneurs through innovation and STEM education. This partnership will facilitate resource mobilization and stakeholder engagement for an annual TED event, aligning with national priorities in clean energy, digital transformation, and smart mobility. REA will provide institutional support and technical expertise to bolster the initiative's clean energy and sustainability components.
