Real Madrid adds NBA player Olivier Sarr on two-year deal

Spanish basketball giant Real Madrid has bolstered its roster with the addition of French center Olivier Sarr, who brings NBA experience to the team. The club announced on Saturday that Sarr has signed a two-year deal, marking a significant acquisition for their basketball program.

The 27-year-old Sarr spent recent years competing in the United States, playing in both the NBA and its developmental league, the G-League. This past March, he signed a two-way contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers, having previously been a member of the Raptors 905 G-League team.

During his time with the Raptors 905, Sarr averaged 11.2 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.3 blocks per game across 39 appearances. His stint with the Cavaliers saw him play in four regular-season games, averaging 3.5 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.3 assists, while shooting an efficient 71.4% from the field.

Sarr, who went undrafted in the 2021 NBA draft, has played a total of 50 games in the NBA, previously representing the Oklahoma City Thunder. Real Madrid is no stranger to the Sarr family, as Olivier's younger brother, Alex Sarr, was selected second overall in the 2024 NBA draft and was part of the club's academy from 2019 to 2021.
