Real Madrid expressed its approval of FIFA's decision to scrap the controversial plan to allow private investment in the World Cup. FIFA President Gianni Infantino was compelled to withdraw the plan on Friday following significant backlash from European football governing body UEFA and other confederations. FIFA had proposed creating a commercial subsidiary to manage its major events, including the World Cup, with the aim of raising $4.2 billion through private investment.

UEFA had led the opposition, threatening to boycott FIFA competitions and expressing a loss of confidence in Infantino. Real Madrid, a founding member of the failed European Super League project, has recently sought to mend relations with UEFA, agreeing to terms in February 2026 that were seen as beneficial for European club football.
