Realitatea Plus faces new sanction amid audience decline

Realitatea Plus has received a new sanction from the National Audiovisual Council (CNA) amid declining viewership and advertising revenue problems. The TV station must broadcast the text of the sanction decision for three hours between 6 PM and 9 PM. This follows the CNA's finding of multiple violations of audiovisual legislation in programs aired in February 2026.

The decision was made during a public meeting on July 7, 2026, after CNA members reviewed 34 reports concerning broadcasts by Realitatea Plus between February 1 and 25, 2026. CNA member Mircea Toma justified the sanction by citing the consistent presence of George Simion, lengthy electoral speeches, and intense broadcasting of protest footage. He argued that the station acted as a political mobilization tool rather than a news outlet, featuring "electoral messages" and "mobilization for rallies."

According to the CNA's official statement, the station violated provisions of Law No. 504/2002 and the Audiovisual Content Regulation Code. These violations include failing to ensure correct public information, balance debates, and clearly separate opinions from facts. The Council also invoked articles requiring broadcasters to present facts and events accurately, ensure pluralism of opinions in public interest programs, and demand evidence when guests make accusations against individuals or institutions.

In the same session, the CNA also fined SC PHG MEDIA INVEST SRL, the company operating Realitatea Plus, 10,000 lei. This fine was for violating Article 54, paragraph (2) of the Audiovisual Law, which mandates that media service providers must obtain CNA approval for changes in previously declared documents and data.
