Reality TV Star Camilo Huerta Under House Arrest in Drug Trafficking Probe

Reality television personality Camilo Huerta has been placed under total house arrest and national arraignment as part of the "Imperio de Ámsterdam" investigation. The proceedings, which spanned two days at the Fourth Guarantee Court in Santiago, saw the fitness trainer formally charged alongside other defendants.

The charges include illicit association, drug trafficking, and money laundering. The investigation, spearheaded by the Aysén Regional Prosecutor's Office and the OS-7 unit of Carabineros, alleges that the organization distributed drugs, primarily cannabis, through medicinal dispensaries. Prosecutors contend that the volumes sold significantly exceeded permitted legal limits.

Huerta, who maintains his innocence and claims he was framed, was arrested at Santiago Airport. He owned one of the medicinal marijuana dispensaries under scrutiny. Total house arrest was also imposed on Juan Pablo Cox, Daniel Ortega, Hanzi Besoain, Valeska Frias, Karen Atens, Vicente Rebolledo, and Carla.

The case highlights a sophisticated operation allegedly using legitimate medicinal cannabis dispensaries as a front for large-scale drug trafficking. The involvement of a public figure like Huerta adds a layer of notoriety to the ongoing investigation.
