Record discontent for Trump: 73% of Americans say he hasn't addressed urgent issues

A record 73% of Americans feel President Donald Trump has failed to address the country's most pressing issues, a sentiment that has permeated even his own Republican base, according to a CNN poll. Support within his party has fallen to a new low.

The survey of 1,225 adults revealed that only 27% believe Trump has focused on the right priorities. This widespread discontent occurs amid an unpopular war in Iran and high prices for fuel and food. Trump's overall approval rating is 34%, matching the historic low seen at the end of his first term. Firm disapproval has reached its highest point, with only 15% strongly approving of his performance, a historic low.

Support among Republicans has dipped to 78%, a new low for a president who often touts his strong base. Only 19% of Republican voters view the remainder of his second and final term with enthusiasm, a significant drop from 38% in the spring. The poll indicates that the war initiated by the United States and Israel against Iran on February 28 is a key factor, creating divisions even with traditional allies. Only 28% of respondents approve of Trump's handling of the conflict, while just 25% believe he has managed inflation effectively, and 21% approve of his actions on gasoline prices.

Rising fuel costs are impacting a majority of Americans, with 74% reporting at least some difficulty, up from 63% in March. Less than a quarter believe the president has a plan to tackle the issue. In terms of migration, Trump's performance also garners low approval, with only 39% satisfied. Following recent shootings involving migrants and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Americans, by a 20-point margin, feel the agency is making cities less safe. Furthermore, 71% believe Trump has not done enough to reduce the prices of everyday goods, an increase from 58% a year ago.
