Record number bought an electric car in July

Denmark saw a record number of private car buyers opt for electric vehicles (EVs) in July, signaling a significant advancement in the country's green transition for the automotive market. According to Mobility Denmark, the industry organization for car importers and manufacturers, 97% of new private car acquisitions were electric.

Mads Rørvig, CEO of Mobility Denmark, highlighted the impact of reduced registration taxes in making EVs a financially appealing choice. "This shows how far the green transition of the car market has come," Rørvig stated. "This has been possible because the reduced registration tax has made the electric car an economically attractive choice, and it contributes to Denmark reaching its climate goals."

Mobility Denmark forecasts that Denmark will have one million electric cars on its roads by 2027, representing approximately one-third of all passenger cars. This projection underscores the accelerating adoption rate of electric mobility in the country.

In other news, the "mega-brand" wildfire in the Gironde region of France, which had burned 42,000 hectares, was reported to be under control. Separately, Aarhus Airport experienced a record month in July, with 71,021 passengers passing through, a 36.9% increase compared to the previous year. Firefighters were also battling a wildfire west of Athens, Greece, where at least 12 people were evacuated by boat.
