Record-selling Brangus heifer crowned Grand Champion Female in Palermo

Amidst a gray morning and persistent drizzle that turned the central arena at the Rural Exhibition in Palermo into a muddy track, the Brangus breed once again showcased its strengths at the 138th edition. Despite the challenging conditions, the animals moved with ease and correctness, captivating the audience during one of the most anticipated judging events.

Judge Carlos Ojea Rullán meticulously selected the champions, noting the high caliber and parity among the Brangus specimens, which underscored the breed's current momentum. The Grand Champion Female title ultimately went to a junior heifer from the El Porvenir ranch in Córdoba. This same heifer had previously made headlines in June when 50% of its ownership was sold for a record 136 million Argentine pesos to Brazilian ranches Floripana and 1835.

Ojea Rullán lauded the breed's progress, acknowledging the difficulty in finalizing the lineup of champions. "Look how they move, how they stand, their rib spring, femininity, the quality of their flesh. It's truly a luxury. Congratulations and a big round of applause for the breed and all the exhibitors," he stated. He further elaborated on the winning heifer, describing her as "extraordinary" with "tremendous balance and equilibrium," noting her ability to nurse a calf, her class, and her well-developed musculature.

Reflecting on the competition, Ojea Rullán told La Nación that the collection of female Brangus animals presented was the finest he had witnessed in his career at Palermo and in Argentine exhibitions. "If there's one thing I take away from this female judging, it's that this is the best group of Brangus females I have ever seen in my life at Palermo and in Argentine exhibitions; truly impressive," he affirmed.
