Record sunflower planting projected in Argentina

Conversely, in the central agricultural belt, the outlook is mixed. Some departments in Santa Fe are seeing a decrease in sunflower intentions as farmers opt for corn, anticipating heavier rainfall. Other areas in Córdoba and San Luis are maintaining stable sunflower acreage despite strong interest in corn due to well-charged soil moisture reserves.

The Bolsa de Cereales de Buenos Aires also pointed to potential supply chain pressures, noting localized shortages of specific oilseed hybrids, which underscores the growing demand for sunflower cultivation. The overall planting decision for the 2026/27 campaign will be heavily influenced by the anticipated transition to a significant El Niño event, raising concerns about potential waterlogging in low-lying fields.
