Red Card and Costly Errors Push Sønderjyske to New Low

Sønderjyske’s difficult start to the season reached a new low on Sunday. The team led 1-0, then collapsed against promoted AC Horsens and lost 5-2.

The home side began brightly, dominating the opening 10 minutes before new signing Osaze de Rosario scored a spectacular debut goal. He met a cross with a half-scissor finish, and another Horsens mistake nearly produced a second goal.

Instead, Sønderjyske struggled when Horsens increased the pressure. Ole Kolskogen equalized after 20 minutes when the home team failed to clear a set piece. Midway through the half, Sønderjyske debutant Stefan Velkov lost the ball as the last defender. Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan took possession and ran toward goal, and Velkov brought him down. The referee showed Velkov a red card, a decision that appeared harsh to the report but was upheld.

The problems continued in goal. New goalkeeper Nick Shinton mishandled an otherwise harmless shot after half an hour, allowing Yamirou Ouorou to put Horsens ahead 2-1. Ten minutes after halftime, Shinton came out poorly for a cross, leaving Abdul Moro to volley in the third.

Ehibhatiomhan then made it 4-1, and Alexander Munksgaard soon scored an awkward own goal. Mohamed Cherif pulled one back for Sønderjyske, but the result left the bottom team with only one point from seven matches. Horsens rose to 10 points.
