Notably, Khamenei's son and potential successor, Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, is reportedly absent from the funeral due to fears of an assassination attempt by Israel. State TV has shown other sons praying behind the coffins, but Mojtaba has not been publicly seen or photographed. People close to his inner circle told Reuters that Mojtaba's face was disfigured and he suffered significant leg injuries in the February 28 attack that killed his father and other family members.
