Relics of Saint Anne come to Romania for the first time

The relics of Saint Anne, the mother of the Virgin Mary, have arrived in Bucharest for the first time. Believers will be able to venerate them at Saint George-New Church from September 5 to 10, 2026.

The relics will be received at 6 p.m. on September 5 at the porch of the princely church, followed by a service of thanksgiving. An Akathist service for Saints Joachim and Anne is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., with Vespers at 7 p.m.

The church has announced a full program for the following days. It includes morning services, Divine Liturgies, vigils and services dedicated to the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, Saints Joachim and Anne, Saint Maria Brâncoveanu and the Brâncoveanu Martyrs. A midnight Divine Liturgy will follow the vigil on September 6.

Saint George-New Church will remain open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. between September 6 and 10 for the veneration of the relics. The delegation from Cutlumuș Monastery on Mount Athos is scheduled to leave with the relics at 10 p.m. on September 10.
