REM Council session on Thursday - Will the president be re-elected?

The council of Serbia's Regulatory Body for Electronic Media (REM) is scheduled to convene on Thursday, July 30, to resume the process of electing its president and deputy president. The session aims to break the deadlock that occurred during the initial constitutive meeting.

On July 20, the REM council's constitutive session concluded without electing leadership. Both candidates for president, Miloš Garić and Mileva Malešić, received an equal number of votes, preventing a decision. This outcome has stalled the body's ability to function at its full capacity.

Following the inconclusive initial meeting, consultations have been held among council members. The objective of these discussions is to broker a final agreement that will allow for the successful election of the president and deputy. The upcoming session is set to begin at 1 p.m.

The REM plays a crucial role in overseeing electronic media in Serbia, ensuring adherence to regulations and standards. The timely election of its leadership is considered essential for its effective operation and mandate.
