Remains of King Oyo Arrive Home as Tooro Prepares Funeral

The remains of Tooro’s King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV arrived at Entebbe International Airport at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 4, as the kingdom began preparations to lay its former monarch to rest.

President Yoweri Museveni received the remains alongside the Queen Mother and government officials. Uganda Police draped the casket in Uganda’s national colors and the colors of Tooro Kingdom before moving it through an airport guard of honor.

Museveni paid his final respects and laid a wreath before the casket was taken to a waiting helicopter. The aircraft was scheduled to transport the remains, family members and officials to Kyegegwa District, where the next stage of the funeral programme would take place.

King Oyo became Tooro’s monarch at the age of three in 1995. He died in the United States on August 27. Museveni declared three days of national mourning from September 11 to 13, with the Omukama scheduled to be buried on Saturday, September 12.
