Report's chat erupts in infighting as co-author talks collapse

The newsroom of the Italian investigative journalism program "Report" has descended into a reality show of its own, marked by internal strife and suspicion. The "boys from the former TG building" at Rai's Via Teulada headquarters are reportedly embroiled in disputes, with chat groups being abandoned and information allegedly being leaked to anchor Sigfrido Ranucci with screenshots.

Proposals for editorial plans were sent to the director of in-depth programming, Paolo Corsini, with instructions to identify anyone who might leak them to the press. Accusations of careerism and even "collaborationism" with the leadership of the Brothers of Italy party have surfaced.

Sigfrido is out: the announcement is a matter of days.

The situation reportedly reached a boiling point when Corsini informed key correspondents that Ranucci was "out," with an announcement imminent. In response, a significant portion of the program's historical staff proposed a "Report 2.0," suggesting Giorgio Mottola and Giulio Valesini as co-hosts, with a rotating third presenter. This proposal, however, fractured the team.

In the "Squadra Report" chat, comprising about sixty people, chaos erupted. Some pushed for a press release demanding Ranucci's confirmation as host, while others deemed the move misguided. A historical correspondent's comment about colleagues who had allegedly faced unwanted advances from Ranucci, and the embarrassment this caused, further divided the group. This comment was screenshotted and sent to Ranucci, who reportedly reacted poorly and contacted the correspondent. Ultimately, the press release was not issued, and about 80% of the chat members, including lead correspondents, left the group, forming a new one without certain colleagues.
