Report: Ter Stegen nearing loan move from Barcelona to Ajax

FC Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen is reportedly on the verge of joining Dutch club Ajax Amsterdam on a season-long loan. Spanish sports newspaper "AS" reports that the German international's future at Barcelona appears limited under new coach Hansi Flick, who does not see him as a starting player.

Ter Stegen, 34, has a contract with the Spanish champions until 2028. However, his lack of playing time at Barcelona has led to previous loan spells. Earlier this year, he was loaned to FC Girona in an effort to gain match practice for the World Cup.

Unfortunately, his stint at Girona was cut short. Ter Stegen suffered a thigh injury in only his second game for the club, an injury that ultimately dashed his hopes of participating in the upcoming World Cup. This setback has further complicated his career trajectory.

The potential move to Ajax would offer ter Stegen a chance to secure regular playing time at a historic European club. Ajax, a perennial contender in the Eredivisie, would benefit from the experience of the 44-time German international.
