Retired officer attacks ex-partner, shoots bystander, then kills himself in Argentina

A violent incident unfolded in San Miguel de Tucumán, Argentina, where a retired military officer attacked his ex-partner and shot a bystander who attempted to help her before taking his own life. The confrontation occurred on Thursday afternoon as the woman was leaving her workplace.

Daniel Moyano, the former military officer, confronted his ex-partner near the Hipólito Yrigoyen plaza. According to reports, he slapped her and then produced a 9mm pistol from a bag. The woman, realizing the danger, fled and sought refuge in a nearby business while shouting for help. Moyano pursued her, and shots were heard in the public area.

Carlos Quinteros, a 44-year-old street vendor who tried to assist the woman, along with two police officers on bicycles, pursued Moyano. They managed to corner him at an intersection. At this point, Moyano shot Quinteros in the arm. Videos circulating on social media showed Moyano in the plaza with a long coat and the firearm, aiming at bystanders before fleeing.

Shortly after, Moyano was surrounded by several police officers. While there are conflicting accounts of the exact moments leading up to his death, it is confirmed that Moyano died by suicide. The incident has deeply shocked the local community, with Governor Osvaldo Jaldo commenting that while such events can sometimes be prevented, they are difficult to foresee entirely.
