Ricky Martin Leaves the Door Open to Appearing on Menudo’s Reunion Tour: “Maybe I’ll Visit a Stage”

Ricky Martin is not on the announced lineup for Menudo’s 50th-anniversary tour, but he has left open the possibility of appearing at one of the concerts.

“I don’t think I’ll be there. Maybe I’ll visit one of the stages. I don’t know, I don’t know,” Martin told EFE on Sunday. “I think that period has also passed for me. I’m very grateful for what it was, but we are in another place.”

Martin joined Menudo at the age of 12 and left at 17, spending five years with the group from 1984 to 1989. He called those years the beginning of his career and “the best school,” because they gave him his first chance to sing and act onstage. He described the experience as his university and said it was impossible to forget.

Menudo announced in June that it would mark its 50-year history with a tour bringing together seven former members: René Farrait, Roy Rosselló, Raymond Acevedo, Sergio Blass, Ralphy Rodríguez, Rubén Gómez and Robert Avellanet. The tour will visit the United States, Mexico and Puerto Rico, starting in Los Angeles in October and ending in San Juan in December.

Martin made the remarks while attending the Venice Film Festival for “Hombre al agua,” directed, produced and starring Mexican filmmaker Gael García Bernal. Martin has a brief role in the film, playing an actor. He also joked about wanting Menudo merchandise, saying he needed the group’s cap and wondering why it was taking so long.
