Rigo Villages Launch Commercial Fishing Project with Malaysian Investor

A new commercial fishing project has been launched in three coastal villages within the Rigo District of Papua New Guinea's Central Province. The initiative, officially inaugurated last Thursday, seeks to enhance economic opportunities for the local communities of Keapara, Alukuni, and Karawa, located in the Rigo East Local Level Government area.

The project is a collaborative effort spearheaded by the Rigo District Development Authority in partnership with Malaysian investor KW Shipping. This collaboration signifies a commitment to developing the region's marine resources and fostering economic growth through sustainable fishing practices.

By establishing this commercial fishing venture, the project aims to create employment and generate income for the residents of the three villages. The initiative is expected to contribute to the overall economic development of the Rigo District, leveraging its coastal resources to improve livelihoods.
