Rijeka thrash Osijek 4-1 at Rujevica as Adu-Adjei scores twice

Osijek briefly appeared to have put their difficult week behind them when Armando Leon gave the visitors a 15th-minute lead at Rujevica. By halftime, that impression had disappeared. Rijeka had turned the match around with three goals and went on to win 4-1.

Samuele Vignato equalized in the 21st minute after Daniel Adu-Adjei won the ball from Kolarik and supplied the assist. Adu-Adjei then became the main figure in the comeback, scoring in the 33rd and 43rd minutes. Toni Fruk provided the final pass for both goals.

Rijeka continued to push for a fourth after the break, with Osijek goalkeeper and captain Marko Malenica keeping the deficit from growing sooner. He made 11 saves in total, but could not stop Fruk in the 61st minute. Fruk created space with a feint and struck from the edge of the penalty area. Malenica got a hand to the shot, but its power carried it into the net.

Osijek arrived after a week in which coach Federico Bessone lost three important players, Omerović, Jakupović and Jurišić. They had helped the team win four of its first five league matches. Under Rijeka's pressure, Osijek repeatedly gave the ball away and paid heavily for those mistakes.

Earlier on Saturday, Dinamo beat Gorica 1-0 through Dion Drena Beljo's 28th-minute goal. Dinamo and Varaždin led with 13 points, although Varaždin had played one more match. Osijek had 12 points, while Hajduk and Rijeka had 10 each.
