Rio Cobre plant on target to deliver 15 million gallons daily by May 2027

Jamaica is making significant strides in bolstering its water infrastructure with the US$92-million Rio Cobre Water Treatment Plant project. Currently 60 percent complete, the facility is on track to meet its target of supplying 15 million gallons of water per day by May 2027. This development is crucial for addressing persistent drought conditions affecting Kingston, St. Andrew, and sections of St. Catherine.

The project represents one of the country's most substantial investments in water infrastructure and drought resilience. Upon completion, the plant is expected to benefit an estimated 600,000 residents. These individuals will be served through approximately 150,000 metered households, ensuring a more reliable water supply.

The Rio Cobre plant's progress signals a commitment to improving essential services and mitigating the impacts of climate variability on water availability. Its timely completion is anticipated to provide much-needed relief to communities that have long struggled with water scarcity.
