Rivers ADC charges INEC on free, fair, credible 2027 elections

The Rivers State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on Nigeria's Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to uphold its constitutional duty by conducting free, fair, and credible elections in 2027. The state Chairman, Dr. Chukwudi Dimkpa, stressed that the integrity of these elections is paramount not only for political parties but for the overall stability and democratic trajectory of Nigeria. He articulated the public's desire for an electoral process where every vote and every voter truly matters. Dimkpa acknowledged past controversies surrounding elections but affirmed the party's commitment to constructive engagement, advocating for improved transparency, accountability, and voter confidence, alongside strict adherence to electoral laws. The ADC chairman also addressed the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, urging him to temper the influence of the 'Rainbow Coalition,' a political movement linked to the minister. Dimkpa asserted that healthy democracy thrives on competition and that all parties have a constitutional right to seek public mandate. The ADC's strategy, he explained, focuses on building a strong grassroots presence, fielding credible candidates, and offering practical solutions to national challenges, rather than engaging in direct conflict with other parties. The party believes that Nigerians increasingly value competence, credibility, and capacity, and through a clear vision and commitment to good governance, the ADC aims to be a significant force. Dimkpa concluded by reiterating that ultimate power rests with the people, and the party earning their trust will succeed. He highlighted the ADC's people-oriented nature and its enduring values of internal democracy, inclusiveness, transparency, and a commitment to national development, positioning it as a credible alternative for genuine change.
