Roads rerouted! National Freeway 1 Xizhi section experiences major traffic jam due to 2-vehicle collision

A traffic accident involving a truck and a car on National Freeway 1 in Xizhi, Taiwan, caused significant traffic jams early Tuesday morning. The collision occurred in the inner lane, blocking two lanes and leading to extensive backups for commuters.

The incident happened around 6 a.m. on the northbound lanes of National Freeway 1 at kilometer 9.8 in the Xizhi section. The two vehicles involved occupied two lanes, causing severe congestion. The National Freeway Police, Xizhi detachment, responded to the scene and closed lanes to help manage the traffic flow.

The area was experiencing heavy rainfall due to the outer bands of Typhoon Merbok, a strengthening front, and increased southwest monsoon winds. The Central Weather Administration had issued warnings for torrential rain in multiple counties and cities, including heavy rain advisories for the greater Taipei and Kaohsiung areas.

Authorities are working to clear the obstruction and restore normal traffic conditions. Drivers are advised to seek alternative routes if possible to avoid the affected area.
