Rob Reiner's Son Denies Murder Charges Filed by U.S. Grand Jury

Nick Reiner, the son of acclaimed American filmmaker Rob Reiner, has pleaded not guilty to new murder charges. A grand jury has indicted him on two counts of murder, with the added allegation of preparing an "ambush" to commit the double homicide. These new charges supersede previous accusations of first-degree murder.

The indictment, unsealed Wednesday by the Los Angeles District Attorney's office, details the alleged killings of Rob Reiner, 79, and his wife, photographer Michele Singer, 70, in December 2025. The specific circumstances leading to the enhanced charges were not immediately clear from the filing. Nick Reiner, 32, was initially arrested on December 14 after the couple's bloodied bodies were discovered at their home in the affluent Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles.

During a court appearance, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman described the case as a "profound betrayal by someone who was loved and trusted by the very people they are accused of killing." If found guilty, Nick Reiner faces a potential sentence of life in prison without parole or the death penalty, although California does not routinely carry out capital punishment.

Nick Reiner is scheduled to appear in court again on September 15 for a preliminary hearing. This hearing will determine if there is sufficient incriminating evidence to proceed to a full trial.
