Roberto Martínez highlights Portugal's many leaders beyond Cristiano Ronaldo

Portugal's national football team boasts a wealth of leadership beyond its iconic captain, Cristiano Ronaldo, according to head coach Roberto Martínez.

Martínez spoke at a press conference ahead of Portugal's match against Colombia, emphasizing the squad's collective strength. "Having the experience of having a captain, with that baggage of six World Cups, helps a lot, but we also have a group with many leaders," he stated. He pointed to the presence of captains from prominent clubs, including Manchester United, two from Manchester City, Porto, and Al-Hilal, underscoring the high caliber of leadership within the team.

The coach believes that the team's emotional equilibrium, sense of responsibility, and freedom to express their capabilities are crucial for their performance. "We are in a good moment," Martínez added, expressing confidence in the squad's current form and readiness.

Portugal's preparation for the match against Colombia has been extensive. Martínez revealed that the team began strategizing for this game as early as March, during their visit to Cancún for the re-inauguration of the Azteca Stadium. They have since undertaken 13 training sessions in Miami to adapt to the climate and playing conditions, which differ significantly from European venues. Martínez stressed that this particular match has received the most focused preparation time, indicating its importance in their campaign.
