Rodrigo Chaves' 'Operation Sovereignty' thwarted by narcos aided by police, says attorney general

Drug traffickers successfully bypassed President Rodrigo Chaves' "Operation Sovereignty" initiative, allegedly with the complicity of border police officers, Attorney General Carlos Díaz announced Tuesday. The operation, launched in 2023, was intended to curb drug smuggling, especially at the critical Moín megaport.

Díaz asserted that law enforcement personnel, specifically border police stationed at the Moín megaport by the Ministry of Public Security, actively assisted drug traffickers. This alleged involvement of police officers severely compromised the effectiveness of the government's anti-drug smuggling efforts.
