Roger Federer to Make Farewell Appearance at US Open Fan Week

Tennis icon Roger Federer is set to return to the hallowed grounds of the Arthur Ashe Stadium for a celebratory exhibition match during the US Open's "Fan Week." This appearance marks his first time back on the court since his final US Open participation in 2019, offering a long-awaited chance for New York fans to bid farewell to the eight-time champion.

The exhibition, scheduled for Tuesday night, will feature Federer alongside some of his most formidable past rivals, including Andy Roddick, Andre Agassi, and John McEnroe. Together, these legends have amassed an impressive twelve US Open men's singles titles, promising a night of nostalgic and high-caliber tennis.

Federer expressed his enthusiasm for the event, describing it as a "real opportunity to say thank you" to the New York crowd. Unlike other tennis greats who received formal send-offs, Federer's departure from the US Open in 2019, following a quarterfinal loss to Grigor Dimitrov, was not marked by a dedicated farewell. Injuries subsequently prevented his return in 2020 and 2021, before his official retirement at the Laver Cup in September 2022.

While Federer has participated in some exhibition matches since retiring, the timing and location of this event, preceding his induction into the International Tennis Hall of Fame later in the week, make it particularly special. He noted that his four children, now aged 12 and 17, might also enjoy seeing him play.
