Roland Garros Finalist to Play in Romania After Impressive Performance

Following her impressive run to the Roland Garros final, Polish tennis player Maja Chwalinska is set to compete in the Iași Open in Romania. The tournament, scheduled from July 12-19, will feature Chwalinska, who recently surged up the WTA rankings after her Grand Slam performance.

Chwalinska, aged 24, reached the final of Roland Garros but was defeated by rising star Mira Andreeva. Despite the loss, her performance marked a career-best achievement, propelling her 93 places up the WTA rankings from 114th to 21st.

Her participation in the Iași Open, now a WTA 250 category tournament, adds significant star power. She could be the second favorite, following Romania's Sorana Cîrstea. Chwalinska has prior experience at the Iași Open, having reached the semifinals in 2022 when it was a WTA 125 event.

However, there is a question mark regarding her final participation. Her entry was submitted before her breakthrough at Roland Garros, and her new status and demanding schedule might lead to withdrawal. If she competes, her recent success makes her a strong contender for the title.
