Rolpa landslide death toll rises to 7, 5 still missing

The death toll from a landslide in Rolpa, Nepal, has risen to seven, with five people still missing. The landslide struck Kotlabara in Thabang Rural Municipality-5 on Wednesday night, following incessant rainfall.

Authorities have identified the deceased as Shanti Pun Magar, 18; Kamal Bahadur Pun Magar, 65; Junkumari Pun Magar, 40; Ashim Pun Magar, 9; Ashok Pun Magar, 6; Dal Bahadur Pun Magar, 75; and Manrakhi Pun Magar, 71. Two individuals, Himal Pun Magar, 22, and Sanjay Gharti Magar, 25, sustained injuries and have been referred to Butwal for further treatment.

The bodies of three victims, one woman and two men, were recovered along the banks of the Madi River in Swargadwari Municipality and Mandavi Rural Municipality of Pyuthan. The missing individuals are Ajambar Pun Magar, 80; Bal Bahadur Pun Magar, 78; Lil Bahadur Pun Magar, 72; Mani Pun Magar, 71; and Hastakala Pun Magar, 67.

A joint team comprising the Nepali Army, Armed Police Force, and Nepal Police has been deployed to search for the missing. However, ongoing rainfall and continuous mud-laden landslides are making rescue operations extremely difficult, according to Armed Police Force DSP Shailendra Thapa.
