Romania Appoints Constructor for Final Section of Union Motorway A8

A significant milestone has been reached in Romania's ambitious infrastructure project, the "Autostrada Unirii" (Union Motorway) A8. The National Company for Road Investments (CNIR) announced the appointment of a constructor for the final lot of the Târgu Neamț-Iași-Ungheni section. This crucial step means that contractors are now assigned for the entirety of the A8 motorway, a project long awaited by Romanians eager for improved connectivity across the country, particularly between Moldova and Transylvania.

The latest contract, awarded to a consortium led by SA&PE CONSTRUCT SRL, covers the 27-kilometer Moțca-Târgu Frumos segment. With a value of 4.87 billion lei (excluding VAT), the project's financing is secured through the SAFE Program, an important European funding instrument. CNIR Director General Gabriel Budescu expressed commitment to timely execution, emphasizing adherence to high standards and full support for the constructors involved. This development is seen as a major step forward in realizing the vision of a unified Romania connected by modern highways.

From today, all four sections of the Moțca-Iași-Ungheni Motorway A8 have contractors, an important progress that we want to materialize as soon as possible by signing the design and execution contracts.

This particular segment is technically demanding, featuring 36 bridges spanning a total of 8.5 kilometers, four tunnels totaling 1.7 kilometers, and three road interchanges. A key priority within this contract is the accelerated construction of a 5.5-kilometer stretch connecting the A8's Leghin-Târgu Neamț section to the DN2 road, and linking to the A7 motorway. This vital connection is slated for completion within 12 months, aiming to provide immediate benefits and facilitate further integration with other major transport routes.
