Romania loses again 2-3 at women's European volleyball championship

Romania's women's national volleyball team suffered another narrow defeat at the European Championship, losing 2-3 to Azerbaijan in a hard-fought match. This follows a similar 2-3 loss to the Netherlands in their previous outing. Both matches saw the Romanian team display resilience, fighting back from set deficits, but ultimately falling short in the decisive fifth set.

Against the Netherlands, Romania lost the first set but battled back to level the match at one and two sets apiece before succumbing 21-25, 28-26, 15-25, 25-22, 9-15. Key performers in that match included Ioana Baciu with 19 points and Rodica Buterez with 18 points in attack. Diana Vereș contributed with 20% reception, while Sorina Miclăuș and Tara-Anamaria Cristea each recorded two blocks.

The scenario repeated against Azerbaijan, where Romania again lost the first two sets but staged a comeback to force a fifth set, ultimately losing 21-25, 23-25, 25-15, 25-22, 8-15. In this game, Iuna Zadorojnai led the attack with 19 points, supported by Rodica Buterez (18 points) and Sorina Miclăuș (13 points). Buterez, Miclăuș, and Vereș were noted for their reception performance.

In Group C, Romania currently sits in second place with two points. Azerbaijan leads the group with eight points, followed by Belgium and the Netherlands with five points each. Romania is ahead of Spain (one point) and Portugal (zero points). The team is scheduled to play Belgium next, followed by matches against Portugal and Spain later in the week. The European Championship is being held across Turkey, the Czech Republic, Azerbaijan, and Sweden.
