Romanian factory offers 1,500 lei hiring bonus amid regional job losses

Amidst a challenging period of layoffs and factory closures in Romania's Arad county, the German automotive supplier Kromberg & Schubert is offering a substantial hiring bonus to revitalize the local labor market. The company's factory in Nădab is reintroducing a 1,500 lei employment bonus, effective June 1, as it prepares for a major recruitment drive.

This initiative stems from securing a significant external contract, prompting the company to nearly double its workforce to approximately 3,000 employees. To meet this demand, Kromberg & Schubert is also considering hiring workers from outside the European Union, highlighting the difficulties in finding sufficient local labor. The company has confirmed a period of massive recruitment is imminent, though specific details about the new contract remain undisclosed.

For the local economy, this wave of hiring means a great deal. The budget will receive more taxes and duties, and people in the area who get a job will have greater purchasing power, which will implicitly lead to local development.

Local officials view the expansion as a vital injection of economic activity. The mayor of Chișineu-Criș, Ovidiu Guleș, stated that the increased employment will boost local tax revenues and enhance residents' purchasing power, fostering broader local development. The Arad County Agency for Employment also sees this as an opportunity for individuals displaced by recent factory shutdowns, such as those at Astra Rail Industries, Aptiv, and Leoni, to reintegrate into the workforce.

The automotive industry in Arad has recently seen significant downsizing, with thousands of workers affected by closures and restructurings. Kromberg & Schubert's expansion offers a much-needed positive development, providing a chance for economic recovery and stability in a region that has experienced considerable hardship.
