Romanian President Criticizes Domestic Leaders for Excusing Russia After Drone Incident

Romanian President Nicusor Dan has criticized what he calls the "irresponsibility" of certain Romanian political and opinion leaders who are attempting to excuse Russia's actions after a drone crashed into a residential building in Galați.

I want to note the irresponsibility of some Romanian political leaders and opinion leaders who are trying to excuse Russia for this incident. And now, Romanian citizens can see who is pro-Western and who is merely mimicking pro-Westernism.

Dan emphasized that the drone originated from Russia, and its trajectory from departure in Russia, through Ukraine, and into Romania was known. He explained that the drone was part of a group of 43 launched by Russia, but only one reached Romanian territory.

The president also highlighted the Euro-Atlantic solidarity and unity demonstrated by partners within the European Union and NATO. Following the incident, which injured two people, Dan convened the Supreme Council of National Defense (CSAT). The council decided to declare the Consul General of the Russian Federation in Constanta persona non grata and to close the Russian consulate there.

We will take proportional measures against the Russian Federation.

Dan described the drone incident as the most serious to affect Romanian territory since the start of Russia's aggression against Ukraine. He assured that proportional measures would be taken against the Russian Federation.

Given this situation, the Consul General of the Russian Federation in Constanta has been declared persona non grata and the General Consulate of the Russian Federation in Constanta will be closed.
