Ronald Acuña Jr. hits his longest home run of the year and reaches 500 RBIs

Ronald Acuña Jr. reached 500 career RBIs with a 450-foot home run, even though his Atlanta Braves lost 4-2 to the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.

Acuña went 2-for-4, scoring one run and driving in another. In the third inning, he turned a 0-1 sweeper from Zack Wheeler into a drive that traveled between left and center field at an exit velocity of 110 miles per hour.

The home run briefly cut Philadelphia’s lead to 3-1. It also became Acuña’s longest of the season, surpassing the 438-foot shot he hit against Cincinnati Reds pitcher Nick Lodolo on May 31.

The milestone made Acuña the 39th Venezuelan player and the 28th player in Atlanta franchise history to reach 500 RBIs. He also singled against Wheeler in his second at-bat, extending a streak of three straight games with multiple hits.

It was the 19th time in his career that Acuña had put together a run of at least three games with two or more hits, and his first such streak this year. His personal best is five consecutive games, achieved in 2019.
