Ronald Acuña Jr.’s 200-200 milestone arrived later than it might have

Ronald Acuña Jr. reached another historic milestone in Washington, joining MLB’s 200-home-run, 200-stolen-base club in just 904 games. No one had reached the mark faster. He beat Alfonso Soriano’s previous record by 25 games.

The Venezuelan outfielder now shares the distinction with some of baseball’s most complete players, including Barry Bonds, Willie Mays, Mike Trout and Rickey Henderson. Fellow Venezuelans Bob Abreu and José Altuve are also members of the group. Acuña is among the players to reach 200 homers and 200 steals before turning 29.

Since reaching the majors in 2018, he has won Rookie of the Year, a National League MVP award, three Silver Slugger Awards and five All-Star selections. In 2023, he became the first player to establish MLB’s 40-70 club while winning the National League MVP award.

But the record also carries a question about what might have been possible without his injuries. The article says physical problems may have cost Acuña roughly 300 games, particularly during the past two seasons. He went on the injured list twice in 2026 and has produced 14 home runs and 20 steals this season, well below his 2023 levels.
