Rookie Salter to start for Lions against Bombers

The B.C. Lions are turning to rookie quarterback Kaidon Salter for their game Thursday against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, hoping to improve their 1-5 season record. Salter will make his first CFL start, stepping in after replacing an ineffective Chase Brice in the Lions' recent 26-12 loss to Toronto.

Salter completed nine of 15 passes for 121 yards in relief. He becomes the Lions' third starting quarterback this season, following Nathan Rourke's injury. The team has struggled offensively, with Brice also failing to secure the starting role.

Meanwhile, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (4-3) will counter with Dru Brown at quarterback. Brown makes his fourth consecutive start while Zach Collaros remains sidelined with a neck injury. Although Brown has a 2-1 record as a starter, he is coming off a game where he threw four interceptions in a 52-30 loss to Calgary.

The Lions will also be without starting running back James Butler, who is sidelined with a foot injury, further complicating their efforts to turn their season around.
