Roy Suryo receives birthday surprise at court ahead of pretrial ruling

Roy Suryo, a former minister and telematics expert, received a birthday surprise from supporters on Monday ahead of a pretrial ruling hearing at the South Jakarta District Court. The group of women sang "Happy Birthday" and presented Suryo with a cake, which he happily cut. He offered the first slice to former Deputy National Police Chief Komjen (Purn) Oegroseno, who was present for the hearing. Suryo's birthday was on July 18. The court was scheduled to deliver a ruling on Suryo's pretrial motion challenging his designation as a suspect by the Metro Jaya Regional Police. Suryo had previously won a pretrial motion in early July regarding his search, arrest, and detention, which the judge deemed formally flawed. However, the judge noted that this did not invalidate the entire investigation file. Suryo also filed a separate lawsuit on July 15 seeking damages from the Metro Jaya Regional Police.
