Rubio touts US energy on India trip meant to repair ties

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, aiming to bolster relations strained by previous U.S. tariffs and engagement with India's regional rivals, Pakistan and China. The visit focused on enhancing trade and energy cooperation between the two nations.

Rubio highlighted the significant potential for American energy products to diversify India's energy sources. He also conveyed a strong message regarding global energy security, stating, "The United States will not let Iran hold the global energy market hostage." This comes as the energy crisis, exacerbated by the Iran conflict, has complicated U.S. efforts to reduce India's reliance on Russian oil.

Historically, U.S. presidents have sought to draw non-aligned India closer as a strategic counterweight to Russian and Chinese influence in the Indo-Pacific.
