Rublev wins 18th career title at Bastad tournament

Russian tennis player Andrey Rublev has captured his 18th career title, winning the ATP 250 tournament in Bastad, Sweden. He defeated Italy's Luciano Darderi 6-4, 6-3 in the final, marking his first tournament victory in almost 17 months.

The match, a clash between the top two seeds, lasted 77 minutes. Rublev, who also won the Bastad title in 2023, expressed his delight at securing the victory on the Swedish clay. "I feel great. Winning here for the second time is a special feeling," Rublev stated after the match.

Despite the challenging conditions, including cold, cloudy weather and a wet court, Rublev managed to overcome Darderi. He noted the difference in play compared to previous days, with more rallies and a different style of tennis. "The court is very wet, so the conditions were extremely different from yesterday when it was windy and sunny," he explained. "Today were tough conditions. There were more exchanges, different tennis. In the end, we both had chances, especially in the first set. I just had a bit more luck in the important moments and managed to turn them around."

Darderi, the second seed and four years Rublev's senior, remains with five career titles. The final saw Rublev secure crucial points to clinch the win, highlighting his resilience in difficult circumstances.
