RuID for entry into Russia becomes mandatory: How to install and apply

Beginning June 30, 2026, foreign nationals entering Russia for employment or educational purposes will be required to use the RuID mobile application for pre-registration. This new mandate applies to all foreign citizens, including those from the Kyrgyz Republic, who plan to enter the country for work or study.

The RuID system is designed to create a unified state database, forming a digital profile for each foreigner. This profile will consolidate essential information such as passport details, photographs, biometric data, and specifics regarding the purpose and duration of their stay in Russia. The goal is to streamline the entry process and enhance security measures.

From June 30, 2026, preliminary registration of entry into Russia through the RuID application becomes mandatory for foreign citizens, including citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic, arriving for the purpose of labor or study.

However, certain groups are exempt from this requirement. These include children under the age of six, heads and staff of foreign diplomatic missions and consulates in Russia, along with their family members. Officials from accredited international organizations in Russia and their families, holders of diplomatic or service passports, and individuals traveling for official state delegation duties or with diplomatic or service visas are also excluded from the mandatory RuID registration.

The RuID app offers several benefits to foreigners in Russia, including online access to public services like health insurance applications and appointments with the Ministry of Internal Affairs. It also provides official notifications about the status of submitted applications and up-to-date information on legal stay durations. Upon crossing the border, users who have personally confirmed their account on 'Gosuslugi' (Russia's public services portal) will automatically generate a personal QR code within the app. This QR code can be presented alongside a passport to government officials for swift identity verification and confirmation of legal status in the country.
