Run on Hangul Day and earn 50,000 won in local currency at Chungcheong Universiade countdown event

Three hundred participants in Sejong’s annual Hangul Run will become citizen promoters for the 2027 Chungcheong Universiade, with a 50,000-won local currency reward on offer.

The organizing committee said on the seventh that it would hold the “Hangul Run with Yu-Runners” to mark the 300-day countdown to the university sports competition on Oct. 5. The Hangul Run takes place every year on Hangul Day, Oct. 9, in Sejong, a city associated with Hangul. Yu-Runners are citizen ambassadors for the 2027 Chungcheong Universiade.

The committee plans to select 300 Yu-Runners from about 10,000 Hangul Run applicants. It will give them commemorative caps. Those who complete the run and carry out tasks, including posting verification photos on social media, will receive 50,000 won in Sejong local currency.

Yu-Runners can choose between two courses. The 10.9-kilometer route marks Hangul Day and runs from Sejong Central Park through Iungdari and Sejong National Arboretum before returning to the park. The 5.15-kilometer route commemorates King Sejong the Great’s birth date and runs from Sejong Central Park to Iungdari and back.

The 2027 Chungcheong Universiade will take place from Aug. 1 to 12 next year across Daejeon, South Chungcheong, North Chungcheong and Sejong. About 15,000 university athletes and participants from roughly 150 countries are expected.
