Russia is shifting more gas exports to China, with over 60% projected to reach the Chinese market by 2030

Russia is preparing to send more than 60% of its gas exports to China by 2030, a further turn toward Asian markets that accelerated after Western sanctions over Moscow's invasion of Ukraine.

Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak announced the projection at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok. He said Russia increased gas deliveries to China by 25% this year, keeping its position as the Asian giant's leading gas supplier. Novak described the next stage of bilateral cooperation as strengthening energy infrastructure and reducing its vulnerability to external factors. Projects include building and modernizing oil and gas pipelines, port and energy facilities, transport and logistics corridors, and insurance systems.

He said 94% of Russia's oil exports now go to what Moscow calls "friendly countries", particularly China and India. Novak added that Russian energy companies can maintain supplies despite geopolitical tensions and disruptions in Middle Eastern supply, saying Russia's most important contribution to international markets, besides its resources, is "reliability".
