Russia Launches Massive Attack on Ukraine; Eight Dead, Including Two Children

Russia conducted a large-scale drone and missile assault across Ukraine overnight, striking military and industrial targets, according to Moscow's Defense Ministry. The ministry claimed that military airfields, military-industrial complex facilities, and telecommunications and military logistics centers were hit in Kyiv, Lviv, and the regions of Ivano-Frankivsk, Zhytomyr, Rivne, Vinnytsia, and Dnipropetrovsk. Russian forces also reported hitting a cargo ship in the port of Yuzhny and two cargo ships near Odesa that were allegedly transporting armaments.

These targeted sites, the ministry stated, were involved in the production, storage, and transportation of various missile systems, drones, and in the operation of the airspace control system. The Russian Defense Ministry posted these details on its Telegram channel.

In Kryvyi Rih, central Ukraine, local authorities reported that six people, including two young girls aged 5 and 12, died in a missile attack. Oleksandr Vilkul, head of the municipal military administration, stated that an Iskander-M ballistic missile launched from Voronezh directly hit a private residence where a large family lived, resulting in the deaths of the two children and four adults. Additionally, one person was killed in Kyiv and another in Poltava due to the Russian raids, according to local officials.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had warned of an impending "massive attack" shortly before the strikes. He later reported on Telegram that a total of eight people had died across the country. Zelensky detailed that Kyiv and its surrounding region, Dnipro, Lviv, Poltava, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, Sumy, Vinnytsia, Cherkasy, and Ivano-Frankivsk regions were hit. He stated that dozens of homes, businesses, and infrastructure facilities were destroyed or damaged, involving over 70 missiles, many of them ballistic, and more than 280 attack drones, though over 260 drones were reportedly destroyed.

Zelensky described the situation as "Russian terrorism" and highlighted that "our soldiers are performing incredible feats" despite a "severe shortage of anti-aircraft missiles from our partners." He urged partners to provide timely assistance, stating, "Delays in the supply of anti-ballistic missiles are the cause of this destruction." He added that all partners are aware of how and with what means they can contribute.
