Russian ambassador: Danish weapons production poses a security risk

Russia’s ambassador to Denmark says Danish intelligence has produced no concrete evidence for its claim that Russian security services are preparing sabotage in Denmark. Vladimir Barbin made the accusation in a written comment to the Danish news agency Ritzau.

His statement followed an interview in Berlingske with Emil Græsholm, head of the Danish Security and Intelligence Service’s counterintelligence department. Græsholm said Russia was preparing sabotage operations aimed at Denmark’s defense industry.

Barbin rejected the claim, saying Græsholm had offered no evidence to support the allegations. “This is common practice when the aim is to frighten the population with the Russian threat and rally it around an anti-Russian position,” he said.

The ambassador also argued that PET’s warning effectively confirms the security risk created by Denmark’s decision to host production for Ukraine’s military. He said Denmark’s involvement in what Russia calls the “conflict in Ukraine” also threatens the country. “Græsholm’s statements should also be seen as an acknowledgment that Copenhagen’s reckless involvement in the conflict in Ukraine, and the transformation of Danish territory into a production and logistics base for the Ukrainian armed forces, pose a security risk to Denmark and its citizens,” Barbin said.

Ukrainian defense company Fire Point is establishing a facility in Vojens to produce rocket fuel. Production is expected to begin at the end of 2027. It will be the first Ukrainian defense company to set up in Denmark. Denmark has also begun discussions with Ukrainian drone maker Skyfall about establishing production in the country.
