Russian-Australian Charged in Australia for Allegedly Supplying Ukraine Military Intel to Moscow

A 27-year-old Russian-Australian dual citizen has been charged with foreign interference by the Australian Federal Police. Investigators allege the man attempted to provide information about Ukraine's military activities to Russia, potentially endangering Ukrainian service members.

According to Australian authorities, the suspect underwent military-style training in Russia in October 2024. He later returned to Australia, where he allegedly maintained contact with individuals believed to have ties to Russian intelligence services. In 2025, the man reportedly traveled to Ukraine and joined its armed forces.

During his alleged service in the Ukrainian military, the man gained access to information concerning soldiers, units, and their positions. Investigators claim he then supplied, or attempted to supply, this intelligence to individuals he believed were acting on behalf of Russian secret services.

Australian authorities emphasized their commitment to preventing the country from becoming a haven for foreign interference activities. The accused faces a charge of intentional foreign interference, an offense that carries a maximum penalty of 20 years imprisonment under Australian law.
