Russian Doctors to Aid Development of Cardiac Surgery in Kyrgyzstan

A significant stride in enhancing cardiac surgery capabilities in Kyrgyzstan is underway, thanks to a new collaboration with Russian medical experts. This initiative stems from the "Mirrakhimov Readings" forum held in Bishkek, which brought together leading cardiologists and cardiovascular surgeons from across the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) member states.

During the forum, the NCCT signed three crucial memoranda of understanding with prominent Russian institutions: the Almazov National Medical Research Center in St. Petersburg, the Bakulev National Medical Research Center for Cardiovascular Surgery in Moscow, and the Kazakhstan Cardiosurgical Center. These agreements pave the way for enhanced training and knowledge exchange.

Under these pacts, Kyrgyz doctors will have opportunities for advanced training in Russia, with four specialists already slated to depart for training in cardiovascular surgery. Furthermore, Russian doctors are expected to spend a minimum of two to three months at the NCCT to help establish and optimize the functioning of a new high-tech cardiac surgery department. This collaboration, supported by China's assistance in procuring equipment worth $7 million, is vital given that cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of mortality in Kyrgyzstan, accounting for over 52 percent of deaths.
