Russian Drone Crash in Romania Prompts Extreme Measures, CSAT Convenes

Romania's Supreme Defense Council (CSAT) held an emergency session following a grave incident where a Russian drone crashed onto a residential building in Galați, injuring a mother and child. The drone's impact caused an explosion and fire in an apartment on the 10th floor, leading to the evacuation of approximately 70 residents.

In response to the most serious incursion onto Romanian territory since the start of the war, President Nicușor Dan convened the CSAT meeting. He also demanded the expulsion of the Russian Federation's Consul General in Constanța and the closure of the consulate. The president further announced an acceleration of air and anti-drone defense programs, in cooperation with NATO partners, the United States, and Ukraine.

Minister of National Defense Radu Miruță, alongside the Chief of the Defense Staff, is scheduled to address the nation. Their press conference, set for Friday evening, will detail the decisions made by the CSAT in the wake of the drone incident. An RO-Alert message was issued for the surrounding areas of Brăila, Tulcea, and Galați following the crash.

The drone, identified as a "Gheran-2" type, struck the apartment block, triggering a high-level alert. The two injured individuals received on-site medical attention before being transported to the hospital. This event marks a significant escalation, prompting immediate and decisive action from Romania's highest defense body.
